Restoring water containment in existing reservoirs

Water storage and hydropower reservoirs are often lined with concrete or asphalt concrete that can deteriorate over time under environmental exposure or settlement. Cracks, failing joints, and damaged linings can lead to water infiltration, progressive deterioration, and loss of stored water. Carpi rehabilitates existing reservoirs with engineered SIBELON® geomembrane systems designed to restore long-term watertightness.

A new waterproof barrier over the existing reservoir

Depending on the condition of the reservoir, rehabilitation can cover the full surface or target joints, cracks, and other critical areas. The flexible waterproofing  SIBELON® geomembrane bridges discontinuities in the existing lining, and can maintain watertightness where settlement occurs, while watertight connections to concrete appurtenances are engineered as part of the overall system.

Rehabilitation adapted to reservoir condition

Where the existing lining has widespread deterioration or leakage, a continuous geomembrane system can create a new waterproof barrier across the reservoir surface.

Where defects are localised, rehabilitation can focus on failing joints, active cracks and other critical leakage paths, reducing the extent of intervention required.

For reservoirs formed by embankments, the rehabilitation system can accommodate settlements while helping prevent internal erosion and piping.
