Innovation driven by real project conditions

Carpi’s research and development approach is closely connected to the challenges encountered on hydraulic structures. Materials, waterproofing systems, anchorage solutions, installation procedures and equipment, are developed and improved to respond to demanding operating and site conditions.

Carpi’s internal laboratory supports this process by allowing tests that simulate project conditions.

MATERIALS

Improving geomembrane performance

Materials used in Carpi projects undergo continuous research, testing and refinement to enhance performance, durability and long-term reliability for demanding service conditions such as exposure to solar radiation, extreme temperatures, seismic events. Carpi works with geosynthetic specialists and established manufacturers, while the durability of SIBELON® geomembranes is monitored through field experience and ageing assessment in independent external laboratories.

SYSTEMS

Waterproofing systems engineered for challenging conditions

Carpi continuously strives to improve  the components and installation procedures used in its geomembrane systems. This work includes specialised anchorage concepts for different subgrades and slopes, solutions designed for very high water heads and winds, leak detection and location systems, and different bespoke technologies allowing installation underwater when dewatering is not an option.

Analytical studies, laboratory testing, and full-scale validation are performed to verify the suitability of new systems before their implementation.

TESTING

From laboratory validation to full-scale performance

Testing is an integral part of Carpi’s innovation process. Internal testing can reproduce project-specific conditions, while external laboratories and full-scale trials either with simulation structures or in the field provide additional validation where required.

Testing supports the development and verification of materials, of anchorage systems and of complete waterproofing configurations before they are applied to demanding projects.

EQUIPMENT

Developing methods for specialised installation

Innovation at Carpi also concerns the equipment and procedures used to install our waterproofing systems. Installation methods are adapted to site access, to the geometry and operating constraints of the structure. Special equipment has been developed to allow executing  underwater works in still water conditions and under flowing-water conditions.

COLLABORATIONS

Combining internal expertise with leading external knowledge

Carpi collaborates with geosynthetic experts, leading universities, research institutions, federal engineering agencies  and independent laboratories to develop, test and verify materials and systems. Project-specific engineering can also be carried out in collaboration with owners, consultants, and project designers.

PATENTS

Protecting technical innovation

Carpi’s technical development has led to proprietary and patented solutions, including different anchorage systems based on the construction methodology of the infrastructure,  external waterstop technologies designed for standard or exceptional operating conditions, systems to minimise the anchorage lines in presence of strong winds.
