Reliable joints are essential to long-term watertightness

Joints are critical areas in hydraulic structures, where movements and high hydrostatic pressure can challenge long-term watertightness. Carpi provides engineered external waterstops solutions for new construction, designed to maintain a continuous waterproof barrier while accommodating joint movements that could cause failure of embedded waterstops.

Carpi’s SIBELON® external waterstop systems can be integrated into the design of new dams and other new hydraulic structures.

Carpi’s external waterstops use SIBELON® geomembrane technologies to waterproof joints exposed to demanding conditions. Designed for large joints openings, significant structural movements, and high water heads, they provide a durable external barrier that can be adapted to the specific joint type and geometry, and to the requirements of each project.

Solutions adapted to each hydraulic structure

Explore waterproofing solutions for new RCC and cemented materials dams, Concrete Face Rockfill Dams (CFRDs) and embankment dams.

RCC and cemented materials dams include construction and contraction joints that require reliable seepage control. Carpi external waterstops can be designed for these discontinuities, providing a flexible external waterproof barrier that being installed after dam constructiondoes not interfere with RCC placement and roller compaction. In some cases, they can eliminate the need for embedded waterstops.

In CFRDs and embankment dams, joints at concrete facings, peripheral joints at plinth and along connections with concrete structures can be critical to watertight performance. Carpi develops external waterstop details adapted to these interfaces. With a geomembarne elongation >200 %, such waterstops can be designed to accommodate large displacements, unlike traditional embedded PVC or copper waterstops.
