Restoring watertightness in demanding hydraulic waterways

Hydraulic tunnels, pressure tunnels, surge shafts and surge chambers operate under demanding hydraulic conditions. Over time, cracking, spalling and deterioration of their concrete lining can create leakage paths, which over time may ultimately undermine the stability of the natural ground and of the structure, while increased surface roughness can reduce water conveyance efficiency. Carpi develops rehabilitation systems designed to stop seepage, to protect the structure and to restore efficient reliable hydraulic performance.

Waterproofing existing structures under hydraulic pressure

Carpi can install an exposed SIBELON® geomembrane lining over the existing concrete surface. The lining provides a continuous waterproof barrier capable of bridging active cracks and joints, while its smooth surface helps minimising head losses and sediment accumulation. Head losses along the waterway are minimised, leakage is stopped, and instability prevented. The system is engineered according to the hydraulic loads, geometry, and operating conditions of each structure.

Rehabilitation across pressurised hydraulic waterways

Exposed SIBELON® geomembrane systems can rehabilitate leaking concrete pressure tunnels while remaining compatible with high water pressures and significant flow velocities.

In free-flow tunnels, rehabilitation can combine seepage control with a smooth exposed surface that helps reduce hydraulic losses, improve water conveyance, and limit sediment accumulation.

Carpi applies the same rehabilitation principles to shafts and surge chambers, adapting the waterproofing and anchorage configuration to the geometry, hydraulic loading and condition of the existing structure.
