In all civil
works, water infiltrating from foundations, from areas of contact
with soil, or from unproperly waterproofed roofings, can be detrimental
for the structure. While action of water on foundations or structural
elements may cause safety problems, increased humidity due to water
leaking from the roofs can cause serious deterioration of the inside
of the building. This may also lead to safety hazard and equipment
damage within the structure.
The installation
of a synthetic geomembrane provides the following benefits:
- creates a
barrier to possible groundwater infiltration through foundations
- avoids water
infiltration from the adjacent soil
- guarantees
the impermeability of the roofing
- prevents damages
to retained appurtenances
- provides long-lasting protection against deterioration.
Since 1963, CARPI
geomembrane systems have been installed as the waterproofing element
on various roofings, including the Pope’s Nervi Hall in the Vatican. Special
applications have been installed to assure protection of foundations
in case of very high water table, even in severe environments.
